EcoSentry Privacy Policy
Effective Date: May 22, 2026
Last Updated: May 22, 2026
1. Introduction
This Privacy Policy describes how Foreston Honey, a sole proprietorship operating in Maryland, United States, collects, uses, and protects information when you use EcoSentry, our soil intelligence product.
EcoSentry helps users test, track, and improve their soil through smartphone-based colorimetric analysis, AI-powered recommendations, and historical trend tracking. EcoSentry is co-developed by Foreston Honey and VerityTech LLC as a joint development project. Foreston Honey is the data controller for purposes of this policy.
We respect your privacy. We collect only what is necessary to deliver the product, and we do not sell your personal data to anyone.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Account Information
When you create an EcoSentry account, we collect:
- Your email address
- Your chosen display name
- A securely hashed password (we never store passwords in plain text)
- Your subscription tier (free, starter, or pro)
2.2 Soil Test and Amendment Data
When you use EcoSentry, we collect data you actively enter:
- Test readings (pH, nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, organic matter, and other measurements)
- Test dates, crop types, and the kit you used
- Location addresses you enter or select (used for regional soil profiles, watershed identification, and forecast accuracy)
- Optional location nicknames you create to identify sub-locations at the same address
- Amendments you log (product type, amount, date applied)
- Notes you choose to add to tests or amendments
2.3 Derived Data
Based on your inputs, EcoSentry generates:
- Soil Intelligence analysis and recommendations
- Soil score, verdict, and parameter-by-parameter assessments
- Predictive forecasts of future soil readings
- Watershed impact calculations (estimated nitrogen and phosphorus diverted from or contributed to your local waterway)
- Watershed and waterway identification based on your test location
2.4 Technical Information
We collect standard technical information necessary for the app to function:
- Device type and browser information
- IP address (used for security and abuse prevention; not stored long-term)
- Timestamps of account creation, test logs, and amendment logs
2.5 Payment Information
If you subscribe to a paid tier, payment is processed by Stripe, our payment partner. We do not store or have access to your full credit card information. Stripe shares with us only your subscription status and the last four digits of your card. See Stripe’s Privacy Policy for details.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
- Provide the EcoSentry product and its core features (soil analysis, forecasts, amendment tracking, watershed impact estimates)
- Personalize recommendations to your crops, locations, and history
- Identify the watershed your property drains into (via USGS National Map data, using only the latitude and longitude of addresses you provide)
- Communicate with you about your account, support requests, and product updates
- Detect and prevent fraud, abuse, and security incidents
- Improve EcoSentry’s accuracy and recommendations through aggregated analysis (see Section 4)
We do not use your personal data for advertising, sell it to third parties, or share it with marketing companies.
4. Aggregated and Anonymized Data
We use anonymized, aggregated soil readings (at the regional zip and watershed level, with no personal or location-identifying information) to improve recommendations and analyze regional soil patterns. This aggregated data cannot be traced back to individual users or properties.
Specifically, aggregated data includes only:
- Reading values (pH, N, P, K, OM)
- Crop category (vegetables, lawn, fruit, etc.)
- Kit used
- Season of the year
- Three-digit zip area (e.g., “207xx” covers ~700 square miles in Maryland)
- HUC8 watershed code (~700 square miles)
- State code
This is the same de-identification standard used by health, fitness, and weather apps. The aggregated data carries no name, no email, no street address, no exact coordinates, no nickname, no notes, and no information that could identify you or your property.
We may use this aggregated data to improve EcoSentry, train our recommendation models, publish regional soil health reports, or share with research partners and agricultural extension services. Aggregated data is not subject to deletion when you delete your account, because by design it contains nothing that connects to you.
5. How We Share Your Information
We share your information only as necessary to operate the product:
- Supabase hosts our database (encrypted at rest and in transit)
- Cloudflare routes our API traffic
- Anthropic provides the AI model that powers Soil Intelligence analysis (test data is sent to Anthropic for analysis but is not retained by Anthropic for training)
- Stripe processes subscription payments
- USGS National Map provides watershed identification (we send anonymous lat/lon coordinates; USGS does not receive your identity)
We do not sell your data to any third party. We do not share your data for advertising. We do not allow third parties to track you across other apps or websites through EcoSentry.
We may disclose information when legally required (court order, subpoena, lawful government request) or to protect the safety of users or the public.
6. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you
- Correct inaccurate information (you can edit most of this directly in the app)
- Delete your account and your personal data (see Section 7)
- Export your test history and amendment records on request
- Object to specific uses of your data
- Opt out of any communications other than essential account notifications
To exercise any of these rights, email support@forestonhoney.com. We respond within 30 days as required by applicable law.
If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA), including the right to know what categories of personal information we collect and the right to non-discrimination for exercising your rights. The aggregated data described in Section 4 qualifies as “deidentified” under CCPA and is not subject to data subject rights.
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, you have rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Foreston Honey relies on legitimate interest as the legal basis for processing your soil data to deliver the product, and on consent (your decision to create an account) as the legal basis for storing your contact information.
7. Data Retention and Deletion
We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active.
If you delete an individual test record, all amendments and forecasts associated with that sub-location are also deleted, along with any watershed impact entries tied to those amendments.
If you delete your entire account, all of the following are permanently removed:
- Your account and authentication record
- All test records, amendments, predictions, and watershed impact records
- All notes, location nicknames, and tester names
- Your payment information (handled by Stripe per their retention policy)
Aggregated and anonymized data described in Section 4 is retained. Because it contains no information that could identify you, deletion does not apply.
Backup copies of deleted personal data are removed from our backup systems within 90 days of your deletion request.
8. Children’s Privacy
EcoSentry is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact support@forestonhoney.com and we will delete it promptly.
Users between 13 and 18 should use EcoSentry with the involvement of a parent or guardian.
9. Security
We protect your information using industry-standard security practices, including:
- Encryption of data at rest and in transit (TLS/HTTPS)
- Row-level security on our database (every user can access only their own records)
- Hashed and salted passwords (we never see your password)
- Regular security review of our infrastructure
- Service-key access restricted to backend systems only
No system is perfectly secure. If you believe your account has been compromised, email support@forestonhoney.com immediately.
10. International Users
EcoSentry is operated from the United States. If you access EcoSentry from outside the United States, your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States, which may have different privacy laws than your country of residence.
By using EcoSentry, you consent to this transfer.
11. Cookies and Tracking
EcoSentry uses essential cookies and local storage only, to keep you signed in and remember your preferences. We do not use third-party tracking cookies, advertising cookies, or analytics cookies that follow you across other sites.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect changes in our practices, the law, or product features. When we do, we will update the “Last Updated” date at the top of this page. For material changes, we will notify users via the email address on file or via an in-app notice the next time they sign in.
Continued use of EcoSentry after a change indicates acceptance of the updated policy.
